| Common Misconceptions: 1.Aren't Doulas midwives? Fact: No we assist with birth we aren't medical doctors. 2.Doulas are only helpful for a woman that is planning a natural(no interventions) birth. Fact: Absolutely not, I will support what ever you choose for your birth experience. 3.Doulas take the place of the fathers role. Fact: Not unless you want me to! My goal is to make this experience the best for the both of you. That means dad needs to help too! You need him as much as I do. 4. Doulas are not well educated on the birthing process, they are just a person who helps the mother.... Yes, that is true anyone can support a mother through a birth. However, a CERTIFIED Doula will have extensive training, hands on experience and a Scope of Practice she or he must comply with. Certified Doulas are held accountable for their actions. CAPPA certified Doulas are Nationally recognized. To find out more about the Professional Association go to: www.cappa.net |
